These Katchina bags were born from a long trip I took with my dog. We had the week alone and decided to just get in the car and drive. It turned out my "True North" was actually south.
We ended up in the quaint and artsy mountain town of Taos New Mexico.
I was so inspired by the people and their bohemian air. Couples were holding hands and peering in gallery windows, the streets were lined withe restaurants serving up the "Christmas" style entrees.
I was in love.
I found a small assortment of these wool, woven ladies and said, "yes, they will be a bag!".
The day I arrived home I began to make all the ideas that were swirling in my head.
With the majority of the body covered with leather, our ladies legs show in the back, and her excited expression on the front.
I created a fun looped handle and made the straps a skinnier more dainty version.
I added even more detail by painting the leather and finishing the edges with teal color on some.
As you wear your bag these handles will soften and become floppy. The hand-painted look will show through and resemble a wood grain texture.
Each bag has an individual tassel as unique as you! All my beads are either natural stone, glass or porcelain.
The charcoal leather used has a metallic sheen. The brown leather is an uber luxe Italian hide.
